MODERN TRENDS AND NEW CONCEPTS IN
NATURAL SCIENCES

The programme proposes a set of lectures and seminars dedicated to foreign students (Polish students are also welcome) specializing in natural sciences and visiting the Jagiellonian University for 1 or 2 semesters.

The package contains selected topics which developed rapidly in the last years and had great impact on both natural sciences and other disciplines. The interdisciplinary character of courses was promoted. So for example "Modern laboratory" shows how the computer science enters each experiment, "Econophysics" applies the methods used commonly in physics to economy, light-induced effects are presented in biology, medicine, chemistry and physics in two correlated courses. An interesting proposal for everyone is the geography of the Krakow region presented in an attractive form of field classes – foot excursions around Krakow.

General knowledge of mathematics and natural sciences is assumed at the level corresponding to first 3 years of university education. The level of advancement will be adjusted to the audience - the lecturers are prepared both for an interdisciplinary group (physicists, biologists, chemists ,…) as well as group of students specializing in selected single topic and interested in detailed knowledge. The majority of courses are planned for one semester. They can be arranged during the winter or summer semester, depending on the students’ interest. In one case only one of two proposed courses will be open, accordingly to students’ demand. Some of the courses include laboratory or field classes.
