III Conference "University for Industry - Innovation Highway"


This year edition (4.04.2005) of conference mainly concerns building cooperation between the education sector and entrepreneurship, through various tools based on supportive actions of European, national and regional authorities, higher education and diverse business institutions.

The speeches and discussions are focused on a complex perspective on such issues as: instruments promoting innovation policy of European, national and regional authorities, cooperation between universities and advanced technology centres. The conference exposes the way such actions are undertaken in the part of southern Poland that is alongside the highway A4 - so called highway of new technologies or innovation highway.

During the conference there were also the representatives of companies investing in new technologies present, as well as public - central and regional officials and representatives of the education sector.


Workshop: Innovative entrepreneurship, or how to turn innovation into business


Second time the Centre for Innovation, Technology Transfer and University Development organizes for 4th and 5th year students, PhD students and junior researchers of the Jagiellonian University the workshop on innovative entrepreneurship.

The main aim of the workshop is to demonstrate to the participants the ways to commercialize and patent their own ideas. Taking part in the workshop should encourage participants to start their own business. Workshop participants can also take part in the summer school led by business trainers and managers cooperating with the University. Participation in the workshop is free of charge.

Meeting with Jagiellonian University research and development faculty

Centre for Innovation, Technology Transfer and University Development organized meeting beetween scientists from Biotechnology department and Institute of Biotechnology, Sera and Vaccines BIOMED S.A.

Six sessions were conducted; including presentation of Jagiellonian University Collegium Medicum and BIOMED S.A. Speeches and presentations had experts from Collegium Medicum (departments: pharmacy and medicine) and Biotechnology.


Innovative Database: experts, projects, equipment

Centre for Innovation, Technology Transfer and University Development (CITTRU) is organizing Database which provides an easy way to gather and search for information on: the possibility for expert co-operation with the scientific staff of the University, scientific projects realised at the University, specialised equipment available at the University.
The objective of the Database is facilitating contacts between the University and industrial and service-oriented businesses/companies interested in using the scientific potential of the Jagiellonian University.

Seminar "Research, Technology Transfer and Fund Raising at Purdue University"


On June 29th, 2004 CITTRU organized a seminar with the participation of guests from the University of Purdue, Indiana, USA. Prof. Robert Ringel, former Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Prof. Mirosław Skibniewski, Director of International Research Programs, gave a talk on "Research, Technology Transfer and Fund Raising at Purdue University: Implications for Polish Institutions of Higher Education".

The presentations and discussion concerned the functioning of the Research Park and the Discovery Park at Purdue University and the ways to raise funds for financing the activity of the University from non-public sources.



Creation of a company - the Jagiellonian Innovation Center


On June 24th, 2004 the Rector of the JU Prof. Franciszek Ziejka signed the notary act creating the company Jagiellonian Innovation Center.

The main aim of the Company, owned by the University, is raising funds for the creation of a technology incubator. The incubator will assist the development of entrepreneurship based on the University's scientific potential.

Modern technical infrastructure, low operating costs and professional services (a.o. legal and economic consultancy, access to laboratories and contact with scientific experts) will doubtlessly give the academic entrepreneurs from the incubator the possibility to successfully compete on the market of advanced technologies.


The Academic Science and Technology Centre AKCENT Małopolska


The Academic Science and Technology Centre AKCENT Małopolska was created to realize an interdisciplinary research and training programme lasting several years, as well as to effectively transfer and commercialize new technologies by Krakow universities: the Krakow Technical University, the Krakow Agricultural University, the Academy of Metallurgy and Mining and the Jagiellonian University. The consortium is coordinated by the Jagiellonian University represented by the CITTRU.
The research programme of AKCENT includes the following priorities: 1. Biotechnology 2. Informatics 3. Product quality and competitiveness 4. Shaping and protection of the environment in the context of sustainable growth 5. Nanotechnologies, new construction and functional materials 6. New technologies in medicine 7. Renewable energy sources
The obtained results will be applicable in the following branches of economy: pharmaceutical industry, agriculture, education, environmental protection and health care.
