The Centre
The project to establish a highly specialized Jagiellonian Life Science and Technology Park was launched by the Jagiellonian University in 2003. It was first developed by the Centre for Innovations, Technology Transfer and University Development (CITTRU), a JU unit responsible for supporting and developing entrepreneurship at the university. As the strategy adopted by the CITTRU was highly successful, in 2004 the project was taken to a new level by the establishment of a university limited liability company called the Jagiellonian Centre of Innovation which was to continue and expand the project.
Since then the Centre has focused on pursuing various objectives in life science fields, including, but not limited to, leasing out infrastructure (labs).
In 2005 the Centre acquired funds (provided by EU, Jagiellonian University and PKO BP SA)
to begin constructing the building of the Life Science Park.
The Jagiellonian Centre of Innovation Ltd. (JCI) is responsible for the management of the Park and it facilitates cooperation among life science companies and institutions based in Poland and, specifically, in the region of Lesser Poland. Further, it fosters cooperation between the Jagiellonian University and business ventures and makes capital investments in innovative projects and companies.
The Centre also promotes the city of Kraków as an ideal place for developing life science by offering labs in the Jagiellonian Life Science and Technology Park which should facilitate research on biotechnology, biomedicine, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, biophysics, physics and environment protection.
