"Human Rights in Europe - a fragmented regime?
Conference at the University of Hannover
17-18 September 2004
The conference plan is to inspire discourse on human
rights in the European context. The main focus will be
on the European human rights regime. The nature of the
system remains an open question. It is often
characterized as fragmented and lacking coherence, but
it can also be described as the most coercive
international human rights regime regarding its legal
obligations.
As a multidisciplinary conference scholars,
governmental officials, and human rights activists
with their specific backgrounds are invited to present
their view on human rights.
Papers have been organized into the following panels:
Legalization of Human Rights, HR in a wider Europe,
Minority Rights in Europe, HR in international
Politics. A keynote speech and an expert roundtable
will address current human rights issues.
The Conference is organized by the Department of
Political Science at Hannover University, IPOSS
(Political Science Students Association) the German
Institute for Human Rights and Amnesty International.
A Conference fee: 40EUR (30 EUR for students) for two days
includes conference materials, refreshments and a
reception.
