Prof. Skalski presented with Gloria Medicinae medal

Professor Janusz Skalski, the head of Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at the Polish American Children's Hospital run by the Jagiellonian University Medical College was presented with the Gloria Medicinae medal to recognise outstanding services to the world of medicine. Professor Skalski received the medal for "his great respect for human life and health and for upholding the highest traditions of the medical profession."

Professor Janusz Skalski is an expert in the area of pediatric cardiac surgery. He is not only a devoted doctor, but also a philanthropist. The awards he has received include the Golden Stapula and the Order of the Smile. He is an author of 310 academic papers and book chapters, including many works from the field of the history and philosophy of medicine, and the chief editor of 8 monographs and 2 textbooks. He has also supervised and reviewed a number of doctoral and postdoctoral theses.

The medal presentation ceremony took place on 8 November 2013 in the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Gloria Medicinae was established in 1990 by Jerzy Woy-Wojciechowski. The persons awarded include Zbigniew Religa, Jerzy Sadowski, Jacek Puchała, and Wojciech Rowiński.
