Jagiellonian University in cooperation with Japanese research and education centres

From November 10 to November 17 a delegation of the Jagiellonian University authorities visited Japan. The visit was aimed at signing collaboration agreements with Japanese institutions of research and higher education in the field of life sciences and humanities (Kyoto University and National Institute of Agrobiological Sciences in Tsukuba) and at discussing the plans of continuing the existing collaboration (University of Tsukuba). The Jagiellonian University delegation consisted of the JU Rector, Prof. dr hab. med. Wojciech Nowak, JU Vice-Rector for Medical College, Prof. dr hab. Piotr Laidler, and the representatives of the Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology.

The first destination of the visit was Kyoto, where a collaboration agreement between the Jagiellonian University and Kyoto University was signed. The major fields of prospective cooperation include research, education, student exchange as well as technology development and transfer.

Then the JU delegation paid a visit to the University of Tsukuba, with which the Jagiellonian University has signed a collaboration agreement for the period 2002-2018. The talks concerned the ongoing cooperation in the field of Japanese studies at the JU and the planned collaboration in the area of natural and medical sciences. The visit in Tsukuba concluded with the signing of an agreement with the National Institute of Agrobiological Sciences (NIAS), the largest Japanese research centre in the field of agricultural application of life sciences.

The visit in Japan was funded within the framework of the Project "Harmonisation of Education Management at the Jagiellonian University", partially financed from the European Social Fund.
