On Wednesday evening, 12 Ocotober 2011 the Małopolska Academic Sports Gala was held. It was organized by the Krakow branch of the Academic Sports Association to conclude the Małopolska Academic League 2010/2011, which involved athletes representing higher education institutions from the Voivodeship of Lesser Poland competing in 32 different sports.

At the gala, the JU Vice-rector for the Medical College, Prof. Wojciech Nowak received the cups and certificates which the JU athletes won competing in the Małopolska Academic League.

More than 5000 student-athletes participated in the league. More than 500 JU students were among them and achieved considerable success. The JU Sports Club took the third place, whereas its Medical College counterpart was ninth. It is worth noting that the JU was the only institution whose students competed in all the 32 sports.

The rectors, vice-rectors, heads of academic sports centres and clubs received awards from the president of the Academic Sports Association, Waldemar Kordyl. The first and second places were taken by the University School of Physical Education in Krakow and the AGH University of Science and Technology.
