The presentation of MediaTory 2011 awards

Monika Olejnik, Maciej Woroch, Andrzej Poczobut, Andrzej Stankiewicz: these icons of Polish journalism were among the winners of the 5th MediaTory contest, in which students from 13 Polish universities decided which people of Polish mass media deserved greatest praise for their proffesional achievement in 2011. On December 3, 2011 crowds of people gathered in the JU Auditorium Maximum to watch the gala presentation of the awards.

It is the fifth time MediaTory awards have been presented. The awards went to 10 journalists in 9 different categories. The most prestigious one, AuTORytet 2011, for reliability, professionalism and highest standards  was given to Monika Olejnik. The other winners include:  Andrzej Stankiewicz, recognized as the best columnist, Maciech Woroch, who has proved that a journalist can be both fast and accurate at the same time, Irena and Jerzy Morawscy, acclaimed as the authors of the most famous documentary Czekając na Sobotę (Waiting for Saturday), Maciej Orłoś for the positive energy he transmits to the public as a TV presenter, Tomasz Sianecki for his original idea of showing the past in relation to the present, Andrzej Poczobut for his courage and persistent struggle for democratic values in Belarus, the FilmWeb24 magazine for introducing a new quality into the Internet journalism and the UWAGA! TVN documentary programme for the series "Animals are like humans. They feel!".

The award gala was accompanied by the debate about the future of journalism in Poland and the whole world.

The event was organized by the MediaTory Association and the JU Journalism Students' Society, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the honorary auspices of the Rector of the Jagiellonian University. These awards have a certain purpose. We tell journalists that they should act in such way that we, the students of journalism, have role models to follow.
