Concert of Symphony Orchestra in Kraków Philharmonic

On 11 May a concert by the Symphony Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Kraków to mark the 650th Jubilee of the Jagiellonian University, conducted by Jerzy Maksymiuk, took place in the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic. It was attended by the Rector of the Jagiellonian University, Prof. Wojciech Nowak, Vice-Rectors: Prof. Stanisław Kistryn, Prof. Piotr Laidler, Prof. Andrzej Mania, Prof. Jacek Popiel, and Prof. Maria-Jolanta Flis, the JU Chancellor, Ewa Pędracka-Kwaskowska, and Bursar Teresa Kapcia The programme included Mikhail Glinka's Ruslan and Ludmila, Alexander Glazhunov's Violin concerto in A minor op. 82, and Ludwig van Bethoveen's V Symphony in B major op. 60.

As officially announced on the stage by Vice-Rector Prof. Rafał Delekta from the Academy of Music in Kraków, the concert was a ‘modest' gift to the Jagiellonian University from the Academy. Prof. Wojciech Nowak thanked him and presented him with the JU Jubilee Album. The concert was completed by a piano interpretation of the Polish birthday song "Sto Lat", specially performed for the Jagiellonian University by Jerzy Maksymiuk.

The Symphony Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Kraków is developing very dynamically thanks to the great enthusiasm and dedication of young musicians. Its repertoire primarily consists of the masterpieces of symphonic music, including works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Berlioz, Brahms, Czajkowski, Dvořak, Mahler, Szostakowicz, Bartok and, Penderecki. The Orchestra gives annual concerts conducted by Maestro Krzysztof Penderecki, which provides the young artists with a unique and invaluable experience.
