JU researchers among the L'Oreal scholarship winners

Dr Aneta Kasza and doctoral student Anna Grochot-Przęczek are among the scholarship winners in the competition "For Women and Science," organized by the L'Oreal Company.

Dr Aneta Kasza is a member of the staff in the Department of Cell Biochemistry at the JU Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology. She is writing a postdoctoral thesis on "The mechanisms of gene expression regulation by proimflammatory cytokines and epidermal growth factor." Her research may contribute to a better understanding of the causes of breast cancer and some types of brain cancer. She was granted a PLN 30,000 scholarship. 

Anna Grochot-Przęczek from the Department of Medical Biotechnology is writing a doctoral thesis on "The use of bone marrow derived pro-angiogenic cells in the therapeutic angiogenesis: the role of heme oxygenase 1." She is exploring the possibilities of stimulating the creation of blood vessels. She won PLN 25,000 scholarship.

As many as five L'Oreal scholarships in biology and biotechnology have been granted to the JU researchers so far. The scholarship "For Women and Science," awarded since 2001, is aimed at recognizing achievements of outstanding women researchers and supporting them in their research.
