Degree of Doctor honoris causa for Prof. Michał Heller

The JU Senate has decided to confer the degree of Doctor honoris causa on Prof. Michał Heller. The ceremony for the conferment of the doctoral degree will take place on 12 May during the JU Festival.

The Jagiellonian University is proud to recognise the professor's contributions to:

  • the research in singularity in relative cosmology and the pioneering implementation of noncommutative geometry in the description of the Universe in quantum cosmology
  • conceiving and promoting the idea of harmonious co-existence of science and rational faith, which allows these both fields of expertise to develop independently and to draw on mutual achievements
  • philosophical insight into the contemporary life sciences, especially the research in the mathematical character of nature
  • promoting the belief that the rational thinking is precious regardless of one's religious convictions
  • numerous initiatives and the establishment of the following research enterprises – Kraków Cosmology Group, International Kraków Cosmology Schools, Centre for Interdisciplinary Research or recently founded Copernicus Center for Interdisciplinary Studies
