JU scholars admitted as new members of the Academic Europaea

This year, two JU scholars – Prof. Bogdan Szlachta, Dean of the Faculty of International and Political Studies, and Prof. Karol Życzkowski from the JU Institute of Physics, have joined the ranks of the prestigious Academia Europaea.

The Academia Europaea is a European academy of sciences, humanities and letters. Its members are scientists and scholars who collectively aim to promote learning, education and research. Founded in 1988, and with over 3000 members, the Academy includes leading experts from the physical sciences and technology, biological sciences and medicine, mathematics, the letters and humanities, social and cognitive sciences, economics and the law.

The Academy's mission is to promote a wider appreciation of the value of European scholarship and research, make recommendations to national governments and international agencies concerning matters affecting science, scholarship and academic life in Europe; encourage interdisciplinary and international research in all areas of learning, particularly in relation to European issues and also identify topics of trans-European importance to science and scholarship, and propose appropriate action to ensure that the issues are adequately studied.

The Academy seeks to encourage the highest possible standards in scholarship, research and education and to promote a better understanding among the public at large of the benefits of knowledge and learning, and of scientific and scholarly issues which affect  society, its quality of life and its standards of living.
