X-ray techniques in the investigations of the objects of cultural heritage

A 3rd Conference on X-ray techniques in the investigations of the objects of cultural heritage took place in Kraków in May 13-16, 2010. The main focus of the conference was the work of Rembrandt and his disciples. The interdisciplinary conference, which took place in Collegium Maius, was organized by the JU Faculty of Chemistry, the Jagiellonian University Museum, the Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry of the Polish Academy of  Sciences and the Commission on Crystallography in Art and Cultural Heritage of  the International Union of  Crystallography.

The Conference was attended by historians of art, art conservators and scientists from Poland and many European countries.  Thanks to the conference the attending scientists could learn about stylistic research conducted by historians of art, about common problems faced by conservators and about recent studies on the works of Rembrandt and his disciples which are preserved in Poland. On the second day of the conference physicists and chemists from Polish and foreign laboratories discussed the ways in which modern science could be used in examining objects of cultural heritage.
