A delegation form Taiwan visits the Jagiellonian University

On Wednesday, 25 March 2015, the Jagiellonian University was visited by a group of distinguished guests from Taiwan: Lin Chong-pin, Professor in the Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies at Tamkang University, Jieh Dale Wen-chieh, Director-General, Department of Policy Planning, MOFA, Harn Jiann-haur, Deputy Director on Home Assignment, Department of Policy Planning, MOFA, Hou Ming-chang, Assistant Director General, Department of European Affairs, MOFA, and Chu Yeh-shin, Director (First Secretary), Taipei Economic and Cultural Office.

The visit was composed of several parts. The first of them was a meeting with Prof. dr hab. Zdzisław Mach, Rector's Proxy for International Cooperation, and Prof. dr hab. Adam Jelonek from the Institute of the Middle and Far East, in the Senate Room of the JU Collegium Novum. The meeting was also attended by Dr hab. Łukasz Gacek, Dr Ewa Trojnar, Dr Bogdan Zemanek, Dr Adina Zemanek, Dr Michał Lubina, and Dr Joanna Guzik.

In his opening speech, Prof. Zdzisław Mach, discussed the rich history and tradition of the Jagiellonian University, emphasising its constant development and contribution to modern scientific thought. He also mentioned the long-lasting cooperation between Taiwanese and Polish higher education institutions. Next, Prof. Adam Jelonek described the role of the Institute of the Middle and Far East in establishing relationships between the JU and foreign universities, and expressed his hope that the Polish-Taiwanese collaboration in the area of research, teaching and student mobility will continue flourish. The rest of the meeting was devoted to lectures, delivered by the guests and concerning such topics as political and economic issues in Asia and their significance for Europe, followed by a short debate.

After a break, during which the Taiwanese guests were able to visit the centre of Kraków and the university's museums, began the second part of the visit. The delegates and university representatives were received by Prof. dr hab. med. Wojciech Nowak, JU Rector, in his office in Collegium Novum. The following discussion was devoted to Polish-Taiwanese cooperation and current political situation in Europe and Asia.
