The Jagiellonian Library goes digital

Mr Marek Nawara, the Marshal of the Małopolskie Voivodship, and members of the JU Government have signed the project whose objective is to provide access to online resources of the Jagiellonian University library collection.

The project will start in October 2010 and will take three years. Its completion will cost 2 838 624 PLN including the subsidy of 2 128 968 PLN from the Regional Operational Programme for Małopolskie Voivodship for the years 2007 – 2013.

The project will help to protect, digitalize and make 2500 unique prints available. As paper degradation poses a great threat to the library collection, the digitalisation will help to save old books, prints and journals from irreparable damage and will increase their availability. The project's goal is also to build a modern and bilingual web portal of the Jagiellonian Library, to modernise the server room and implement the secure system of database archiving system.
