Two prestigious awards for JU Institute of European Studies employee

Dr Wojciech Burek, an adjunct academic at the JU Institute of European Studies, has recently been presented with two prestigious awards: the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition Award for the best book on public international law published in 2012 (category: author's first publication) as well as the Ministry of Science and Higher Education scholarship for distinguished young scholars.

For over 20 years, the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition Award has been presented to authors of the best books on public international law. Dr Wojciech Burek's Reservations to the human rights treaties was voted the best book published in 2012 in the author's first publication category.

It is worth mentioning that in the previous year's edition of the competition, another employee of the JU Institute of European Studies – Dr hab. Paweł Czubik – was presented with the award for his publication entitled Prawo dostępu do konsula w świetle prawa międzynarodowego, europejskiego i krajowego [Right to Consular Access in Light of International, European and National Law], albeit in a different category (author's successive book).

The scholarship for distinguished young scholars has been awarded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for a few years now. Annually, the Ministry funds over 100 scholarships, ranging from 1 to 3 years. It is directed towards scholars who are no older than 35 and have already contributed much to their academic field. Dr Wojciech Burek has received 3-year scholarship (2014–2017).
