From 10 to 13 June 2014, Prof. dr hab. Stanisław Kistryn, JU Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds, visited the University of Groningen on the occasion of its 4th centennial and an annual conference of the Coimbra Group, entitled "Universities in the 21st Century: For Infinity." During the conference, the participants discussed the challenges in education and research conducted at the European Universities. Prof. dr hab. Zdzisław Mach, JU Rector's Proxy for International Relations, and Dr Jacek Urbaniec, JU Rector's Proxy for E-Learning, also took part in the meeting.

The main centennial celebrations were organised on 13 June in the Martini Lutheran Church and were preceded by an international academic procession. University of Groningen Rector, Prof. Elmer Sterken, led the ceremony, during which nine honorary degrees were awarded.
